Rag Rugs
Rag Rugs first gained popularity during the Great Depression, when resources were either costly or unobtainable. So families as a group hooked or prodded through necessity, ensuring all old clothing received a second life.
Cynthia remembers these being passed down from earlier great-aunts and grandmothers, and following the traditions set down, now hooks old T-shirts onto hessian. This is a rewarding occupation, as it is not only part of the currently popular recycling process, it also allows for an artist’s need to create.
